Book Review
Unknown Threat
I haven’t read a lot in romantic suspense yet, but it is quickly becoming one of my favorite genres. This first book in a new series by Lynn H. Blackburn is a fast-paced novel that only solidified my enthusiasm for this thrilling genre. Unknown Threat starts big and doesn’t let up until the very end – while still providing plenty of time to get to know and love the full cast of characters.

Synopsis
(From Goodreads)
US Secret Service Special Agent Luke Powell is lucky to be alive. Three of his fellow agents have died in unusual circumstances in the past ten weeks. Luke is devastated by the loss of his friends and colleagues, and his inability to locate the killer feels like a personal failure. He’s an expert at shielding others, but now the protectors are in need of protection.
FBI Special Agent Faith Malone is driven to succeed and confident in her ability to solve every case she’s assigned. She’s been put in charge of the investigation into the unprecedented attacks, and with Luke’s life in danger, the stakes have never been higher. But it’s hard to know how to fight back when you don’t know who the enemy is.
What I Loved
All the characters – and I mean all of them. Faith, as our heroine, is as determined and tough as they come, but it’s all focused on her drive to help others. Luke is incredibly likable right from the start, and only grows on you as the full depth of his character is revealed. As the two leads of this romantic suspense, they are both compelling on their own as well as together. But they are far from the only characters in Blackburn’s novel that I want to know more about. The rest of the Secret Service Agents that seem to be at the center of murderous intents are all interesting as well as entertaining in each scene.
The romance in this book was very sweet, and I enjoyed reading the story as Faith and Luke fall for each other while both trying to fight those feelings as they work together to identify the source of the attacks. It was neat to watch them work together as well, using their intelligence and experience to find answers. While the main conflict of the story came from the attacks, there was also the right amount of conflict in their relationship to keep Luke and Faith’s story interesting and realistic.
The mystery behind the attacks in Unknown Threat – and the escalation of attacks and danger as the story goes on – keep me from wanting to ever put the book down. The more I read and the closer the team came to answers, the more I needed to know who was behind the attacks and what they had against the Secret Service Agents that had been targeting. The answer was both surprising enough and fitting to the elements of the story to create a resolution that I was happy with.
I loved this book, and I can’t wait for the next novel in this series to come up. I really want to read more about each of the characters, but I definitely have some favorite secondary characters that I hope will be featured soon!
